circus arts
musical performance

The one i was most interested was tragedy

popular productions at the moment

 * grease - grease is one of the most popular old movies and is also a theatre production even though  i have  not seen it in the theatre i do own it on dvd and its one theatre productions id loved to go see .

The new production of Grease, which incorporated all the hit songs from the movie, opened at the Dominion Theatre in 1993 starring Craig Maclachlan as Danny Zuko. Having been discovered in Neighbours the producers realised that Craig exuded the charm that was essential for the character of Danny. They had already seen eight hundred girls for the part of Sandy, but when introduced to American actress Debbie Gibson she was offered the part immediately. The show was taken on tour in 1997 starring Shane Richie and then Ian Kelsey as Danny Zuko and due to its success ran again with Luke Goss heading the cast.

* Shrek : is one of my most favourite films and its most recently come to the theatre.

Before Shrek was a musical, or even a movie, he began life as a story book character Created by famous New Yorker cartoonist and author, William Steig in 1990. In this gallery you can view the original artwork for Steig's children's book, and you might just spot some other familiar characters too!

research different theatre's and visiting them ...

we went on  a trip to london to view the types of places where performances look place . We went into some on the most popular theatres in london and looked at information on their performance that were taking place.

preparing our performance

we choose to base our performance on the theatre show the women in black ....although we wanted to focus on the story with in the play which is not really explained very well so our aim was too make the story of the sister's as clear as we could .

we needed to think about the two sister's when it came to preparing our script  , i was put in charge of the script i knew i need to focus on the feelings and emotions both sisters went through , jennet was doing what she thought was best so i created her character to be quite emotional always talking about her child praising him . Alice was more of a posh character and was a bit of a snob , she wanted a child and jumped for the chance to have her sisters , she used her money against her sister promising the baby boy a wonderful life which was a offer that jennet could not turn down .

choosing our audience was good , we choose to use yr. 9 as they are just about to choose they option and they are in the middle of their secondary years so we felt they were mature enough to understand the performance .

where to perform ? due to the media suite not being big enough we choose to use the drama huts , which was a great chance for us to use there knew LED lights ,which i have to say was amazing !

we needed music for our performance , so we research on children lullaby , we thought it was the best kind of music to suit the performance  below is the music we used

as a group , we were able to keep in touch through using our school email accounts to keep motivated !

The script

job roles we needed to think about

lighting department :
lighting operator  , this was important because the lighting designer decided which lights will help tell the story .

sound department:
sound designer and sound engineer
these jobs are important because they both add to the impact of the story

wardrobe/costume departments

costume designer  and wardrobe , theses jobs were important because it ensured the characters looked the part

work shop
set designer
this was important to make sure the set suited the story line and the performers .

work shopping to help develope idea's:

* to help us develope ideas , we brain stormed the events that happend throught the women in black , we started noting the events that we found most interesting
* the main event was the story line between the two sisters , alice and jennet
* we choose to base our performance around this , even though the imformation given to us was a brief of the story we wanted to right a script that would explain it in more detail
* we hoped for a performance to be a bit like the west end musical wicked because wicked is base around the story between the two witches in the wizard of oz .

working effectively during the performance : work effectively and making good use of our time was extreamly important , we split into groups so we were able to get everything done in time ,
erica : was organizing costumes as her costume was most important she needed the time to try things on and she also takes textiles for a gcse so it helped us to gain access to the textile department .

paige : was organizeing the set design and the auidenece , she needed to schudule the class that we would perform to and how much time we would have to perform the short peice , also we was able to choose what props we have in class that we could use for our set to make it look like it was from the past.

me: my job was simply to write the scrip even though it proved to be harder than i thought , i need to ensure the contrast between both sister's were clear , it need to explain the story in some detail but also needed to be entertaining.

schedule :
period 1 :  writting scrip and editing to make sure all characters are happy with lines
period 2 : try on costumes to ensure they all fit and look the part
period 3 : perpare set for reherals
period 4 : find helpers for lighting and sound
period 5 : run through the hole piece
lunch :  practise
period 6 : run through the performance
period 7 : perform and collect feedback

being safe : we ensured that saftey was included when doing our performance , we checked things like costumes for e.g. erica's costume was quite long so to ensure that erica didnt fall over or hurt her self in any way or form we made sure the costume didnt quite touch and that the floor infront of her was clear before and during the performance .

another saftey option was when using props such as glasses we need to ensure their was no possible way of them getting broken or falling .

when using in the lights we made sure we had someone who understood how to you them , to ensure that it was safe

                                                   Lighting

Through out most of the performance we used a simple spot light , but to increase the tension when the women in black appeared  we used flashing strobe lights this means that for health and safety we had to ensure that non of the
Picture

                                                  safety

we made sure for health safety reasons that we were :

*wear appropriate clothing and footwear that allows you to dance , move , and act correctly

* being careful about wearing jewellery , as it might get caught pr pulled during physical movement in scene's

* behaving professionally and appreciate that you need to trust each other .some improvisation or physical work can be dangerous if you are not concentrating

*being careful when lifting heavy equipment or large pieces of set furniture

*do use any equipment that may cause danger with out adult supervision

the performance

                                                   evaluating

 succeeding my intentions :
i personally think the performance was a little short , it was only around 7 -8  minutes  but the 7-8 minutes we performed was to a great standard as we all remembered  our lines and no major mistakes were made . All my goals were reached in the performance , i was extremely confident and i projected my voice well .

things we needed to change : we originally only had three scenes which gave a insight to the story but due to time we found that our performance was too short so we added a extra scene , we were unable to find the time to add this scene to the script which i would have liked to do .The extra scene was a solo scene were paige (jennet ) performed on her own , it was quite short but it was full of emotion which i think had a great impact on the audience .

what worked well : i think the lighting and sound worked amazing with the story line , it reached all my intentions , it made the story come to life , i describe it as freaky , spine shivering and a thrilling story .Also the actor's worked great together which also helped when rehearsing because it made it easy to expression  options  and contribute idea's.

what did go so well : from feedback we found that the audience wasn't to impressed with how quick the performance was , they liked it so much that they wish it was longer .

feed back : their were comments made after the performance , people said things like  , i wasn't expecting it to be so good , i really liked the sound and lighting , it was a great performance , the women in black as actually quite scary .

meeting deadlines : we managed to pull the performance together quite quickly but the script took a incredibly long time to complete so we had less times for rehearsals . so the deadline was quite hard to meet .

suggesting idea was a strong part of the group because as we are all friends , it made it easy for us to express our idea together and made it easier to try new things without feeling embraced in front of each other .

keeping focused was quite easy for my as i really enjoy performing up for some of my group they found it hard so i found myself taking a lead role and trying to keep everyone focused .

we  all tried to work to the best  of our ability and i believe we did because we managed to put our nerves aside and work as hard as we could and i believe we did great .

If i was to perform again i think id like to perform with a bigger group , or maybe even try a different style of performance .
